We’re here to GIVE
Twelve & Thirteen is about tzedakah – doing good deeds for those less fortunate. It’s about growing gratitude and empathy and creating unique family experiences. We don’t “drop off to do good”. We connect, learn and grow – together.
Twelve & Thirteen provides direct support to people in need, partnering with some of Melbourne’s most dynamic charities.
Our programs bring together Jewish families from all walks of life, increasing awareness of a range of social justice issues by partnering with diverse Jewish and non Jewish charity partners. From youth homelessness and food insecurity, to domestic violence, period poverty, sick and vulnerable children and seniors experiencing isolation or loneliness.
We know the best way to learn is to do. Through our unique volunteering experiences, our families go behind the scenes of our charity partners. Over 9 months, our families spend 2 hours, once a month, learning about a different charity and participating in an impact activity. It’s hands on. It’s rewarding. It makes a difference.
It started with a desire to help others.
Twelve is a Jewish community organisation that was formed in 2015 when founder Moran Dvir’s eldest daughter was approaching her batmitzvah. A lifelong volunteer, Moran wanted her daughter to experience the same satisfaction and personal gratitude she felt when helping others. Moreover, she hoped that regularly volunteering with her daughter would create a balance to the many parties she would attend (as well as her own).
“I learnt that if you help someone it helps them and at the same time it feels good. After the session, I felt good that I helped someone. The Thirteen program taught me how lucky I am.”
