Twelve & Thirteen Enrolment

Our b’nei mitzvah program broadens awareness of a wide-range of social issues and provides hands-on volunteering opportunities for our families to give back. It’s flexible, fun and extremely rewarding.

Twelve & Thirteen families participate in meaningful volunteering sessions with our charity partners.

What’s involved:

• February: Twelve & Thirteen Opening Workshop
• Monthly volunteering sessions: 2 hour sessions, once a month during the school terms (1-3)
• August: Reflection Workshop
• September: Closing Showcase

Examples of past collaborations with charities:

• Making meals for the homeless with Youth Projects
• Pack toys, games, books & much more with Koala Kids
• Playing basketball with youth from public housing with Helping Hoops
• Packing care kits for women & children experiencing homelessness & fleeing domestic violence with Impact
• Packing and meal deliveries for families experiencing food insecurity and social isolation with C Care
• Designing wishes for children with critical illnesses with Make-A -Wish Australia

What does the program offer :

• You’ll go behind the scenes at some of Melbourne’s leading Jewish and non-Jewish charities, many of which are often closed to the public
• A special family shared experience: you can choose to make this journey one between father and daughter, or mother and son, or mix it up with a different family member joining sessions each time. The choice is yours.
• Flexibility. We know every family has different commitments that can vary throughout the year. This is why we offer our Sunday volunteering sessions on both morning and afternoon, allowing everyone the opportunity to attend all sessions and charities.
