These barmitzvah boys at Emmy Monash Aged Care? They. Blew. Us. Away. Their gentleness with the residents. Their patience. Their willingness to go out of their comfort zone and make small talk with elderly strangers.
By the end of the two hours, new friendships across generations were formed. And mensches were born. Boys, parents and residents worked slowly, carefully making cakes together for Jewish families in crisis helped by grassroots Jewish organisation, Pekelach.
We have a confession. We got a little misty eyed when we saw these pictures. The tenderness shown by boys and parents. The frailness of the older men and women. The vibrancy and youth of the boys as they hover between teen and boy, while they prepare to officially become an adult. But what we love the most? The AMAZING role models they have as parents. It's no wonder the boys were so empathetic, kind and present. As you can see, their parents showed them exactly how it's done.
We hope you enjoy these images as much as we did. It's what our Thirteen Barmi Program is all about.
